In the seventh episode of #GivingLifeColour | The Talk Show, HB BODY and Jane Sabanikou welcome Lakis Falkos, HB BODY’s own Technical Consultant, a man whose passion for vehicle paints has shaped an entire career.
-
Lakis explains that his journey began at a young age, when he painted his own motorcycle. What fascinated him wasn’t just the transformation itself, but the feeling of taking something old, worn, and rusty and turning it into something shiny, fresh, and new. His first project was his 2.5i Enduro, followed by a Triumph Daytona 955 in a yellow pearl shade, for which he even created custom logo stickers. He later moved on to a CBR1000RR, applying a clear coat so glossy that, as he describes it, “the motorcycle looked like it was sliding through the air.”
He then spent 10 years painting buses, a field where large surfaces, complex designs, and more demanding partners expanded both his skill set and his perspective. Eventually, Lakis joined HB BODY, where he now introduces painters to new products, techniques, and technologies. He emphasises how important proper guidance is, especially since there’s no official training system for car painters, something he believes would greatly help young people discover and join the profession.

The conversation dives into the evolution of colour: from pastel shades to metallics, to the modern triple-stage and effect colours, which he finds the most challenging yet rewarding. For Lakis, a perfectly painted colour is defined by three elements: shade, finish, and shine. His favourite shades? A shiny red or a vibrant yellow, but if he had to choose a signature colour, it would definitely be a glossy, radiant red.
He also shares a humorous memory: a client who simply couldn’t decide on a colour for his small ATOS — and ended up painting each part of the car a different shade.
